New Mexico Concealed Carry Training
Responsible Armed Citizen provides New Mexico Department of Public
Safety-approved Concealed Handgun License training for initial applicants
and current license holders. Training is available for initial licensing,
the required two-year refresher, and four-year license renewal.
Concealed Carry Courses
15-Hour Initial Course
Department-approved classroom and firing-range training for
qualifying applicants seeking their initial New Mexico Concealed
Handgun License.
2-Hour Refresher
Required refresher training for current New Mexico Concealed Handgun
License holders completing their two-year training requirement,
including the required range qualification.
4-Hour Renewal Course
Department-approved classroom and firing-range training for current
license holders completing the training requirement for renewal of
their New Mexico Concealed Handgun License.
Concealed Carry Training
Firearm Safety
Safe handgun handling, storage, operation, shooting fundamentals,
and responsible firearm practices.
New Mexico Law
Instruction addressing applicable New Mexico laws, regulations,
restrictions, and responsibilities associated with carrying a
concealed handgun.
Conflict Avoidance
Attack avoidance, confrontation management, sound decision-making,
and nonviolent approaches to resolving disputes.
Range Qualification
Practical range instruction and demonstration of competency with
the handgun category and caliber for which the student seeks
certification.
Live-Fire Qualification
New Mexico’s competency demonstration requires live fire at both
three and seven yards.

Maintaining Your New Mexico License
Initial License
Complete the applicable NMDPS-approved initial firearms training
and competency requirements before submitting your license
application.
Two-Year Refresher
Licensees must complete the required two-hour refresher training
22 to 26 months after issuance of an original or renewed license
and submit the completion certificate to NMDPS.
Four-Year Renewal
Licensees seeking renewal complete a four-hour NMDPS-approved
renewal course that includes classroom and firing-range instruction.
More Than a License
Meeting the state’s licensing requirements is only one part of

handling, sound judgment, awareness, understanding the law, avoiding
unnecessary confrontation, and recognizing the responsibilities that
come with carrying a firearm in public.
